3 Reason to Make More Choices
Level Up at Lunch Ep. 6
In the immortal lyrics of Rush,
“If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.”
Today we’re going to talk about choices and why you should decide to choose. Specifically, why you should be deciding to make more of them instead of setting them off until a later time.
Like Rush’s lyrics say, even if we choose not to decide, either actively or passively, we are still making a choice. Here are a few reasons why to be active in your decision making instead of letting life happen and going with whatever is thrown at you.
First, it’s better to be proactive than reactive.
For example, if you’re going to put off a decision because you need more information, make the decision to pursue that information. Then, set a deadline for this information gathering to be complete. Don’t just say, “I’m putting it off until later.” Later will come and you may decide you to push off the decision again. So, be proactive even if it is to delay. Make it a conscious decision and follow up with what your step is going to be.
Next, making choices frees up headspace.
I don’t know about you, but even the decisions like where am I eating tonight? Can drain my energy. If you know of a choice coming up, make the decision ahead of time. Planning and scheduling aren’t only for tracking and organizing your day. They’re freeing up your headspace for more important tasks.
Maybe you’re like me, the more indecision I have in my head, the more drained I am going to become. Save yourself the energy and pick what you’re going to have for supper before it’s 5 o’clock.
Finally, making choices is going to set an intentional direction.
Decisions get you moving. And the best way to get where you’re going is to know where you’re going in the first place. If we keep putting off decision making, it’s almost as if we’re trying to get to a destination without knowing where the destination is.
The time to have a map is before you go into the forest.
Not setting a direction is like showing up at a random forest and you aslo don’t have a map.
That wraps up why you should be making choices.
- Become proactive.
- Free up your headspace for more important things.
- Set a direction for where you want to go.

Why do you like video games?
The stories that are created while playing games are spontaneous, they’re surprising, and often so funny that I cry from laughing. Needless to say, game sessions with friends would be recounted for days to come.
